Dr Rutgers has many years’ experience as a senior project leader in several research projects with a multidisciplinary group of experts. These projects, besides contributing to the scientific arena, are aiming at bridging the gap between research and policy (environmental management). For the last 20 years, he worked in the fields of ecotoxicology, soil microbiology, soil ecology and integrated risk assessment. He is project leader of the Dutch Soil Monitoring Network, which includes application of a suite of chemical and biological indicators in agro-ecosystems and other areas.
